On most social networks we share links of interesting articles, internet memes we find funny, popular cat photos; and share updates about our daily lives using a combination of content, like videos, photos, and the written word. However, Instagram is different than the typical social network, in that it is where we share our lives solely through photographs.
Instagram is where we go to post photos of everything we find interesting, from pictures of our friends and family members, right down to what delicious foods we are eating for lunch. This social network encourages us to capture moments, no matter how big or small they may be, and enables us to share them with the world in hopes of connecting with others through a little red heart.

What is important to your business when using social networks? Is a question many companies should be asking every time they log onto their social sites, such as Facebook or Twitter. Understanding what the purpose is for using these sites is vital in knowing the types of content your business will produce and share on them, as well as, what your company hopes to gain from using them.
For most businesses, the answer would be to connect, engage, and build reciprocal relationships with the right people, but finding the right people for your business is not always easy and usually takes a lot of time and effort to accomplish. There’s been some chatter on the internet lately and in articles I have seen appear in my Facebook news feed and in my Twitter stream, suggesting that Facebook “likes” and “comments” don’t matter and only the “shares” of content from your page or profile by another user does. Since I use social media on a daily basis for work and for personal use, the mere thought of this has brought me to a place of disagreement. Although I agree Facebook “shares” are important and should be a goal that everyone strives for, they do not lessen the importance of a “like” or “comment” received on this popular social site.

Pinterest is a site that not only lets us discover cool finds and interesting images, but provides us with the ability to form collections of items that are of interest to us. To say that there is some-what of a pull and fascination that takes over immediately after the first repin occurs would not be an exaggeration, for often times, what was supposed to be a few minutes of looking at images on Pinterest, usually ends up being a few hours. For businesses, this makes marketing a much easier process for they can be easily found and their products discovered through pins, repins, and boards on Pinterest.

Whether you are sharing what you ate for breakfast or a blog article you have read, the goal is to have your posts show up in other people’s newsfeeds. The most effective way to make your status update get the views and interactions you want, is to attach a photo to the posts you are sharing.
