On most social networks we share links of interesting articles, internet memes we find funny, popular cat photos; and share updates about our daily lives using a combination of content, like videos, photos, and the written word. However, Instagram is different than the typical social network, in that it is where we share our lives solely through photographs.
Instagram is where we go to post photos of everything we find interesting, from pictures of our friends and family members, right down to what delicious foods we are eating for lunch. “There’s an app for that.” Ever since mobile technology has advanced to Apple Inc.’s release of the iPhone, this phrase has become widely known and comes up in conversations often. The phrase has become part of everyday vernacular, and in most cases, is true. If you’re looking for a simulation game that allows you to play as people in real life situations, there’s an app for that. If you want to know what kind of places, such as restaurants, historical areas, convenient stores, among others, are in the area you’re in or heading to for the weekend, there’s an app for that. If you’re wondering who the artist is or what the lyrics are for the current song on the radio, there’s an app for that. Convenient, isn’t it?

According to Experian Hitwise, the site nearly received 11 million total visits during the week ending December 17, 2011, which is almost 40 times the total amount of visits it received only six months prior ( June 2011).
