Lord of the Rings fans rejoice, as today begins another series of three Peter Jackson epic fantasy-adventure films, based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, starting with the highly anticipated movie “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.” It has been a long wait for these films, since the last of the LOTR films debuted in 2003.

The journey didn’t start out in the movie theatres though; the LOTR trilogy was based on the 3-volume book of the same name, created by the English author J.R.R. Tolkien. It wasn’t until much later that they were turned into the beloved movies by the director and films co-writer, Peter Jackson.

In 2001, the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, introduced us to many of the well-loved characters, such as Gandalf, Gollum, Frodo and Bilbo Baggins and brought what our imagination of “The Shire” would be like, to life.

The journey continued with two more films, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, in 2002, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, in 2003. Along the way, we were introduced to new characters, learned more about familiar ones, and discovered just how much the One Ring rules them all.

With this new trilogy, Peter Jackson takes us back in time with the plot from “The Hobbit”, by giving us a closer look at Bilbo Baggins’ encounter with the One Ring, which was lightly touched upon in the first of the LOTR films. Similar to that of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jackson will be using the novel of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien, but unlike the three-volume book of LOTR, The Hobbit only has one, which Peter Jackson plans to make into three films.

The Hobbit has produced much hype, causing many Lord of the Rings fans and followers to expect amazing things from An Unexpected Journey. Buzz about the first film of the trilogy has been shared on various social networks and written about on numerous blogs, but besides the film itself, there is another movie (be it a much shorter one) about The Hobbit and the One Ring you just have to see.

This hilarious video, “The Hobbit – One Ring” uses the tune of One Direction’s song “One Thing” and puts a playful, hobbit-like twist on it that only a Lord of the Rings fan would understand. Be prepared to take a humorous trip back to The Shire.
